They don't believe there is a third suspect but SWAT teams continue to go room-to-room to clear the school. A school official called authorities to report that shots were fired, she said. All local schools in the county are on lockdown as the authorities are searching for a possible third suspect.

The charter school teaches kindergarten through 12th grade and has more than 1,800 students, ABC Denver affiliate KMGH reported.

Multiple people who were injured were students, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office told reporters during a news conference.

Nicholson-Kluth said authorities don't know at this point if the suspected shooters were students.

They described the situation as unstable and are directing parents to pick up their children at a nearby staging area.

"All other Highlands Ranch schools are on lockout".
