Michigan State Basketball: Kyle Ahrens’ tough season likely ends early

The third and likely final meeting between MI and MSU this season tips off today at 3:30 pm EST / 12:30 pm PST on CBS. Winston, the Big Ten Player of the Year, had 14 points and 11 assists as Michigan State won for the 10th time in 11 games.

The top-seeded Spartans (28-6) rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second half and scored the game's final 10 points to capture their first championship since 2016.

Tyler Cook and Luka Garza led Iowa with 14 points apiece. They will try to become the first team to win the conference tournament three years in a row when they face No. 6 Michigan State - a 67-55 victor over Wisconsin - on Sunday. Jon Teske had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Zavier Simpson added 10 assists.

The Michigan Wolverines are also headed to Des Moines, but they are the #2 seed in the West bracket and will play Montana.

The opening game for MI won't be easy either as the Wolverines will take on Montana for the second straight year in a rare opening-round rematch.

After last year's disaster of revealing teams alphabetically, we were back to getting the bracket by region (as it should be), starting with the East, headlined by top overall seed Duke, who will face the victor of the NC Central-North Dakota State First Four game on Tuesday. "We've got to embrace this opportunity, because we might not get it again".

Wisconsin closed to 35-27 at the break, helped by a missed dunk by Tillman in the final seconds.

The Spartans' Kenny Goins hit two free throws to make it 65-60 with two seconds left.

There's no information about the extent of Ahrens' injury yet, but the consensus thought is that he broke his ankle and he will join Josh Langford on the bench to watch the remainder of Michigan State's season. Medical personnel placed an air cast on his leg and teammates gave him hugs before he was wheeled away, pounding his chest as he was taken to the back.

Michigan State forward Nick Ward was hampered by foul trouble in his second game back after being sidelined by a broken left hand.

Michigan State is 4-0 all-time against Bradley with the last win coming in 2008.
