Politicians and Jody Wilson-Raybould's father take to Twitter following her resignation

Jody Wilson-Raybould, who resigned from the Liberal cabinet Tuesday, has cited the privilege as the reason she can not speak publicly about discussions with the prime minister's inner circle on the fate of criminal charges against construction and engineering firm SNC-Lavalin.

In her resignation letter on Tuesday, she didn't specify the nature of her disagreement with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"This is an issue that has been much talked about over the last few days and I think it's important Canadians continue to have confidence in our system", Trudeau pointed out. I am in the process of obtaining advice on the topics that I am legally permitted to discuss in this matter and as such, have retained the Honourable Thomas Albert Cromwell, CC as counsel.

In a one-page resignation letter addressed to the prime minister Tuesday, the Liberal MP stated that she sought public office "with the goal of implementing a positive and progressive vision of change on behalf of all Canadians and a different way of doing politics".

But if Wilson-Raybould believed such actions were improper she could have - and should have - resigned then.

Citing unnamed sources, the Globe and Mail has reported that officials in the prime minister's office transferred that pressure previous year to then-attorney general Wilson-Raybould. And on Monday, Trudeau said he welcomed news that federal ethics commissioner Mario Dion has initiated his own investigation into the matter, specifically whether there's been a violation of a Conflict of Interest Act provision which prohibits a public office holder from seeking to influence a decision so as to improperly further another person's private interests.

SNC-Lavalin is facing allegations that former executives paid bribes to win contracts in Libya under Muammar Gaddafi's regime, which fell in 2011.

"... I am concerned about the many unanswered questions about Jody Wilson-Raybould's departure and this is echoed by many First Nations across the country".

Three years ago, when Trudeau appointed Wilson-Raybould to the AG's role, he boasted about the gender parity in his cabinet, saying: "Because it's 2015".

According to the government, the attorney general provides legal services to the government and its departments and agencies with an eye to protecting the overall interests of the administration.

Federal byelections will be held on February 25 in three vacant ridings - Burnaby South, where NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is hoping to win a seat in the House of Commons, the Ontario riding of York-Simcoe and Montreal's Outremont.

Wilson-Raybould was the epitome of Brand Trudeau-the daughter of a First Nations politician, she was a lawyer whose sterling career as Crown Prosecutor and Regional Chief of the B.C. Assembly of First Nations paved the way to her becoming justice minister.

Liberal MPs hold the majority on the committee and it's possible that they could amend the language in the motion before them to change the scope or focus of the proposed study. And that's a huge blow for Trudeau and the PMO, if indeed they were covering up the affair.

In a statement, Settee called the resignation a "significant step backwards" for reconciliation.

I want to thank all Canadians, and in particular the residents of Vancouver-Granville, who put their trust in me and supported me as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and as the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.

"I'm absolutely pissed", said Stewart Phillip, president of the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs.
