Trump ally Stone pleads not guilty to Russian Federation probe charges

Roger Stone has entered a not guilty plea in federal court in Washington, DC.

Mueller's team, which is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, charged Stone with one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements and a count of witness tampering.

He added that he didn't know which of Trump's senior campaign official were directed to talk to Stone to find out about further releases by WikiLeaks and said he only worked off of information Stone provided him.

Stone was charged with lying to Congress and obstructing an investigation into alleged collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

The charges brought by Mueller's office largely revolve around false statements Stone is accused of making to the House Intelligence Committee regarding his communications with associates about Wikileaks.

Stone also directly communicated with Guccifer 2.0 on Twitter in the weeks before the election when Trump suggested that Russians should hack Hillary Clinton's emails.

Stone is the latest Trump associate charged criminally for various charges, which have included lying to Congress or the Federal Bureau of Investigation, bank and tax fraud, and failing to register as a foreign agent for lobbying purposes.

Stone, a longtime ally of Donald Trump, was arrested at his home in Ft. However, I think the Mueller investigation is really at the bottom of the barrel when they're looking at people like this.

Stone, a self-proclaimed "dirty trickster" and Republican political operative since the days of the Watergate scandal that forced his former boss President Richard Nixon to resign in 1974, was released on a $250,000 bond after his arrest.

Stone shared with Trump campaign staffers advance knowledge that he had of WikiLeaks' plan to release senior Democrats' emails, Mueller said in court papers. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) agreed that it's a "pretty damning indictment" and said Stone's defense is pretty typical of "every white-collar defendant in this circumstance".

Stone has repeatedly denied conspiring with WikiLeaks, asking on Friday on CNN: "Where is the WikiLeaks collaboration?"

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday, Stone accused prosecutors of "trying to criminalise legitimate political inquiry".

When those concerns are raised, Noah said, the same people calling foul for the treatment of Roger Stone always say "blue lives matter", "respect the police", or "that's the law".

"At the time, I looked at them as essentially a media outlet" that "would have also put out negative information on Trump if it had it", Donald Trump Jr. testified to the House Intelligence Committee in December 2017.
