Liverpool v Bayern, Man Utd v PSG in Champions League last 16

One of the fiercest worldwide rivalries in soccer will play out three times in the last 16 of the Champions League when a trio English teams take on German opposition.

The draw is cruel on Atletico because if there is one player even more determined to reach the showpiece game next May in the Spanish capital than their own players it is Ronaldo who would see it as his grand vindication after leaving Real Madrid last summer. While Group A runners up Atletico Madrid will face Juventus.

Also, three-time defending champion Real Madrid will first play at Ajax, while Barcelona was drawn with Lyon. Will Jose Mourinho's Manchester United face FC Barcelona, or Liverpool get a replay of last season's final against Real Madrid?

Liverpool were drawn against Bayern Munich in another matchup that is certain to provide plenty of entertainment.

"A tough cookie, but that's something to look forward to as a player". And that this Bayern team is significantly weaker than previous editions.

Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain said on the club's social media: "This competition is getting hard".

English champions Manchester City will take on Schalke 04 and Tottenham Hotspur will face Borussia Dortmund in the other clashes between the Premier League and the Bundesliga.

On whether the fact Bayern have a winter break could influence the tie...

"We'll need to pull off two big performances, in the first leg and in the return, but we can do it". As such, they list Bayern games played at Football Arena Munich. The second round will be played on March 5/6 and March 12/13.

The draw was made in Nyon, Switzerland today and the first leg of the tie will be played in England on 13 February, while the second leg will take place at the Signal Iduna Park on 5 March.
