Former England manager Glenn Hoddle was rushed to hospital today after collapsing in the BT Sport studio on his 61st birthday.

BT Sport Presenter Jake Humphrey said Hoddle was "taken seriously ill" after appearing as a guest on football programme Saturday Morning Savage.

Other sports personalities were quick to react to the news, and send their best wishes to Glenn.

Former England team-mate Gary Lineker wished Hoddle well, writing on Twitter: "Hugely worrying news that Glenn Hoddle collapsed at the BT studios earlier".

A spokesman for the Tottenham legend said: "The condition is serious but Glenn is now receiving specialist treatment and responding well".

Our thoughts are with him and his entire family. "They have also asked to respect their privacy at this time".

BT Sport presenter Mark Pougatch said: "You will understand why there's no BT Sport Score this afternoon".

Tottenham tweeted: "Everybody at the Club sends their best wishes to @GlennHoddle for a full and speedy recovery after he was taken ill this morning".

The former England manager - who also played for Tottenham, Monaco, Swindon and Chelsea - was inundated with messages from well wishers.

'One guy from BT Sport was fantastic - he was first aid-trained and he was excellent.

Glenn Hoddle is in hospital after being taken seriously ill.

Hoddle then had spells managing Swindon and Chelsea before taking charge of England between 1996 and 1999, giving David Beckham his worldwide debut in 1996.

Among the clubs that Hoddle managed and played for, Tottenham and Chelsea were quick to send their support. He went on to marry Vanessa Colbourn in 2000, but split from her in 2015.

"He was a schoolboy at Tottenham when I was there and he was the star player we all looked up to and could never get near".

Humphrey said that the BT Sports Score show, which Hoddle was scheduled to appear on, had been cancelled. He has three children: Zara Marie, Jamie Glenn and Zoe Ann.
