Edinburgh will see a very windy start to the day, but winds will slowly ease as the day progresses.

The statement said: "Schools and all education centres (universities, IoTs and further education centres) in areas affected by a status orange alert should remain vigilant, and keep themselves appraised of any hourly and other updates from Met Éireann, and from their local authorities, local radio, and an Garda Síochána".

Other regions of the United Kingdom were expected to remain largely dry, but strong winds were forecast.

"Winds will reach strong gale force or storm force along the coast with severe or possibly damaging gusts".

It looks like heavy winds are already hitting the coast in Dublin as one user on Twitter has posted a video showing winds reaching up to 60km/h in the early hours of the morning. However, it will stay stormy for a time on West and Northwest coasts with damaging gusts. If it drifts further east, we would be in for stronger winds.

"The public are asked to be careful on all roads due to surface water flooding and in coastal areas, especially at high tide. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees".

Much of the United Kingdom will experience some heavy rain on Friday, with further spells at times during Saturday, as Storm Callum passes to the north west of the UK.

"Possibly damaging and disruptive southeast winds will veer southwest after the passage of this front, with the strongest of the winds set to impact coastal areas".

Thousands of households have been left without power and dozens of flights grounded after Storm Callum hit the United Kingdom and Ireland in the early hours of this morning.

Both Chirk Castle and Erddig Hall have also been closed throughout today due to the high winds.

A zone of heavy rain associated with an intense weather system affecting western parts of the United Kingdom will become slow moving for a time, bringing prolonged rainfall and the potential for surface water flooding.

A yellow wind warning has been updated for the 60-70 miles per hour winds which will accompany #StormCallum.
