India vs West Indies: Ravichandran Ashwin surpasses Harbhajan Singh in elite list

Ravindra Jadeja, who scored his maiden worldwide century during India's only innings, took the final wicket of Shannon Gabriel for four as the hosts celebrated an utterly dominant win over the former cricketing powerhouse.

It was a maiden Test ton for Jadeja, who had to wait for nearly six years to reach three figures in the five-day format.

Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings with figures of 4/37 and in the second innings, he took two more wickets guide India to their biggest victory (by runs) in Test history.

Kohli, 72 overnight, went on to complete a 24th Test century during the morning session, after wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant fell just short of his own hundred - out for 92, with India looking well set on 470 for five.

Only right-hander Roston Chase, unbeaten on 27, showed any enterprise as wickets tumbled around him, leaving the Windies still trailing by a mammoth 555 runs heading into Saturday's third day.

West Indies' reply soon faltered.

At lunch, the West Indies were 33 for one in nine overs in their second innings with Ashwin removing skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (10) for his fourth wicket of the day.

India made 143 runs in the afternoon session, scoring at close to 4.5 runs an over.

Chase put up some resistance against an inspired Indian bowling attack during his 73-run seventh wicket partnership with Keemo Paul, who made 47. Opener Kieran Powell was the only West Indies batsman to make a contribution in the second innings, an entertaining 83 off 93 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes.

Kohli enjoyed his teammates' fluent strokeplay from the other end as Pant raced to his half century with a four and six off pacer Paul. He did the same to Devendra Bishoo in the following over.
