Apple's cheaper iPhone XR rocks bright colours

Yesterday, Apple treated the world to a trio of shiny new iPhones, and while it's nice to see Apple lean into the big screen trend with the iPhone Xs Max and provide an (almost) bezel-less phone with Face ID that's actually kind of affordable in the iPhone XR, something big things were happening behind the scenes.

Here's how much Apple's latest and greatest will cost you, depending on if you buy it from Apple or your carrier (and when you can order your new phone).

In other words, Apple isn't treating the iPhone XR as some shabby relation. What seems to have become customary with the latest iPhones, Apple hiked the prices of the new devices and since there's a new variant with a massive screen, the price tags also got bigger. As for the iPhone11,6 identifier, this appears to be the iPhone Xs thanks to the 4GB of RAM detailed in the specifications list.

Design-wise TechRadar's Gareth Beavis says that next to the iPhone XS the new iPhone XR is "not quite as attractive", pointing out its thicker bezels and drawing your attention to the fact that its edges aren't made out of the same premium-feeling materials.

Apple's new iPhone lineup features the iPhone Xs, Xs Max, Xr, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, as well as the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus.

Here are all the Apple devices that have received price cut after iPhone XR and iPhone XS launch.

The iPhone XR starts at $749 with 64GB of storage, the same price as a smaller screened iPhone 8 256GB model and $50 more than an iPhone plus with 64GB of storage.

That's still more than the iPhone SE, however, which sold for $399, making it the cheapest iPhone the firm had sold. You can pick from in silver, space grey, and a new polished gold color. This was the reason Apple went for a cheaper LCD panel and a single camera for the iPhone XR. In a press release, Apple COO Jeff Williams said the watch now "becomes an intelligent guardian for your health", the unveiling of which a Fitbit spokesperson followed up with the predictable comment you often see in these scenarios like this. Meanwhile, the iPhone 8 starts at £599/$599 and the 8 Plus is reduced to £699/$699.
