John Legend Achieves EGOT Status

The singer took home a Creative Arts Emmys award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert on Sunday night, making him an EGOT victor!

In case you're wondering what an EGOT is, it stands for Emmy-Grammy-Oscar-Tony and is basically considered the grand slam of modern entertainment awards.

John Legend never dreamed he would achieve the EGOT and thinks it's kind of surreal that he has.

Incidentally, John is up for yet another award during that ceremony, having served as the lead in "Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert", as well as one of its co-producers. Musical theater legends Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, who composed the show, also won as producers. So happy to be part of this team", "So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ.

They became just the 13th, 14th and 15th people to win all four awards all-time.

John now joins the ranks of other EGOT icons like Audrey Hepburn, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Whoopi Goldberg, and Mel Brooks.

The Ordinary People singer was particularly pleased he won at the Emmys because his wife Chrissy Teigen - the mother of his kids Luna, two, and Miles, three months - had rearranged her work schedule in order to join him at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theatre.

Legend could win a second trophy for his title role in "Superstar", when the Primetime Emmys take place on September 17 (NBC, 8 EDT/5 PDT).

All genuine happiness aside, she's still Chrissy Teigen, so she continued her celebration of Legend's win the only way she knows how: by playfully roasting him. And as of Sunday night, he's now an EGOT victor. So amazed to be in such rarefied air. Their "Christmas Story Live" number "In the Market for a Miracle", lost the Emmy for original music and lyrics to the "Saturday Night Live" song "Come Back, Barack".
