Guardiola 'happy' with Sane attitude despite dropping him from Man City squad

Sane had started all of City's three previous league games on the bench but reports before Saturday's game claimed Guardiola was concerned by the winger's focus in training. The Germany worldwide hasn't started any of City's league games this season and didn't even make the squad with reports circulating that Pep Guardiola has grown frustrated with the forward's attitude, but considering the chances his team mates missed, you have to ask if his side missed him.

However, speaking after the Newcastle win, the City boss offered an explanation for Sane's omission. "I was so sad for Phil like I am so sad for Leroy now", Guardiola told a news conference.

Sane was cut from the Germany squad for this summer's World Cup by Joachim Low, with the winger's attitude believed to be one factor in his manager's decision. Yet it has not been an entirely straightforward start, with last season's player of the year Kevin de Bruyne suffering a long-term knee injury and City dropping points in a 1-1 draw at Wolves last weekend. "He was not precise but he tried", the former Barcelona head coach added.

City needed a superb long-range strike from Sterling's England team-mate Kyle Walker to seal victory after DeAndre Yedlin sent Newcastle in level at the break.

"They know me, they convince me the minute they run and do everything". Everything he is going to do is because he believes it's the best for them to get points, to make a good performance.

However, the Newcastle defender is now fit again and will return to the squad in what is arguably the Magpies' most hard game of the season. "We played Arsenal away, so it's a good result and we are delighted for the guys".
