Suspect Climbs on Patrol Car's Roof as it Drives Down Texas Highway

A 150-mile drive to transfer an inmate in West Texas turned into a wild ride when he broke a window and got on the roof of the moving patrol auto.

Local news broadcasters report a man being taken to jail, kicked out a back window and climbed on top of a Taylor County Sheriff's patrol vehicle as it traveled down the highway.

Eyewitness footage showed the suspect - 31-year-old Martin Estrada - apparently attempting a dramatic getaway.

A video taken by other motorists shows the man sitting on the moving auto, then leaping from the roof as it slows and is approached by other vehicles.

Authorities quickly responded and got on both sides of the patrol vehicle.

Officers pulled out their weapons and were able to arrest Estrada immediately.

KTVT reported that the video was captured by Jason and Jennifer Mustain, who were driving on the same highway at the same time.

The officer driving the auto radioed for help and kept going.

Authorities said that Estrada was being transported 150 miles (241km) from a hospital facility where he had allegedly assaulted someone.
