"For humanitarian reasons, Jordan gave the United Nations permission to organize the passage of Syrians who entered the Occupied Golan after Britain, Germany and Canada presented a legally binding pledge to resettle them after three months", Safadi tweeted Sunday.

In a statement posted to Twitter, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they carried out the evacuation at the request of the United States and European countries.

Welcoming their evacuation, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt tweeted: "Fantastic news that we - United Kingdom and friends - have secured evacuation of White Helmets and their families - thank you Israel and Jordan for acting so quickly on our request".

"The civilians were subsequently transferred to a neighboring country".

Hundreds of rebels and their families evacuated from southern Syria after a deal was struck with the regime arrived Saturday in the country's northwest, an AFP correspondent said.

The White Helmets confirmed in a tweet Sunday that volunteers and their families were evacuated to Jordan for "purely humanitarian" reasons after becoming "trapped in a risky area".

The Syrian army wants full control over Quneitra province where Israel has deep concerns over the presence of Iranian backed militias in the so-called Triangle of Death area.

"White Helmets have been the target of attacks and, due to their high profile, we judged that, in these particular circumstances, the volunteers required immediate protection", it said. Many live and work in the northern rebel held province of Idlib, an area that continues to be heavily bombarded by the Syrian government and its allies.

Russian Federation has been exerting pressure on the Syrian army to facilitate the return of numerous displaced and has also asked the United Nations to send regular convoys of aid to ease the humanitarian crisis triggered by the offensive, UN officials said.

Israel has been sending medical aid to civilians who have fled fighting in the Syrian-controlled part of the Golan Heights.

Planning for the evacuation had been taking place for some time but speeded up following a recent North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels.

Tens of thousands of people have been sheltering at the frontier since the Russian and Syrian aerial bombing campaign that the opposition called a scorched earth policy began a month ago.

With the addition of family members, that could bring the total to around 250 Syrians, although the official said the actual number could be lower. These are people who have saved lives and whose lives were in danger. In the past two years, the Israeli military says it has delivered more than 1,500 tons of food, 250 tons of clothing and almost a million liters of fuel.
