Nancy Sinatra Sr dies aged 101

Nancy, who was the first wife of legendary singer and actor Frank Sinatra, died peacefully on Friday night, her daughter Nancy Junior said.

Breaking the news on Twitter, Nancy Jr., wrote: 'My mother passed away peacefully tonight at the age of 101.

"Nancy was giving herself a manicure on the front porch when Frank came over with his ukulele and began to serenade her", according to an account on Sinatra's website.

Right around the same time as Frank was becoming a national celebrity in the United States, 1939, Frank and Nancy got married at Our Lady Of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jersey City, New Jersey, on the 4th of February.

In 1950, humiliated by reports in the press of Frank's affair with screen siren Ava Gardner, Nancy filed for separation and their divorce was finalized in 1951.

Nancy Junior is the eldest of the three children, followed by singer Frank Junior who died in 2016 and actress Tina.

Nancy Sinatra never remarried, but there was little enmity between she and her former husband.

As Nancy Barbato, she made two TV and film appearances, one in her daughter Nancy's 1975 concert film, Nancy and Lee in Las Vegas, and in 1974 on her friend Dinah Shore's talk show.

Nancy, for the most part, avoided the spotlight and chose to instead dedicate her life to her children.

That latter accomplishment led Sinatra to leave him after an affair with actress Ava Gardner became public knowledge.

Frank went on to Wednesday actress Mia Farrow and Barbara Marx before his fatal heart attack at the age of 82.

The two had three children together, Nancy, Frank Sinatra Jr. and Tina Sinatra. Frank frequently requested food from her, foods she was known for being an expert at preparing, including Italian dishes.
