That data includes the release date, which reads June 12, 2018-a.k.a. the date of Nintendo's E3 presentation tomorrow.

Interestingly, there was also no mention of cross-platform play between the Nintendo Switch and any of the other platforms it is available on.

The game, which has more than 40 million monthly active users and has become a cultural phenomenon, will be available today, Nintendo said at the E3 video game convention on Tuesday.

At present, Epic says there are no plans to bring the original "Save the World" PvE component of "Fortnite" to Switch.

Unfortunately this is neither new nor unexpected from Sony, as their position against cross-platform play with other consoles has been well noted. Participants will include the likes of National Basketball Association players Paul George, Andre Drummond, Kenneth Faried, Terrence Ross and Reggie Jackson, UFC fighters Sean O'Malley, Demetrious Johnson and Tyron Woodley, Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen and a slew of other celebrities and professional gamers. Whether Fortnite will be exempt from those charges remains to be seen.

Does this decision affect you at all, or do your Fortnite friends stick to compatible cross-play platforms?

And while cross-platform play has been the key to the battle royale mode, Sony's always been a bit of a stick in the mud on this one. The game will be available to download at 10 a.m. PT.

While this is great news, it just makes me wonder why this wasn't the default for Splatoon 2, the Switch's other game that uses voice chat.
