Tina Fey and her husband, Jeff Richmond, nominated for writing and composing the musical version of "Mean Girls", say they awaited the early-morning announcement with bated breath.

Meanwhile, Angels in America swept the nominations as well for Best Revival of a Play, Best Original Score, Best Lead Actor (Andrew Garfield), two nominations for Best Featured Actress, Best Scene Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Direction and Best Sound Design.

Other nominations also went to three quasi-queer musicals: the My Fair Lady revival, which has a priggish male couple at its heart; Summer: The Donna Summer Musical about the legendary disco diva; and the don't-need-a-prince sisterly duo in the stage adaptation of Disney's Frozen. Both shows were given 12 nods each.

"Of course Lauren Ridloff was nominated for a Tony Award", Berkshire Theatre Group CEO/Artistic Director Kate Maguire commented via e-mail in response to a question. Close behind were revivals of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel, the Angels in America revival, and The Band's Visit.

"The Band's Visit", "Carousel" and "Angels in America" closely follow with 11 nods each.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", a new play about the grown wizard and his troubled relationship with his teen-aged son, won 10 nominations, including best play and best actor for star Jamie Parker. Those musicals are up for 11 nominations each.

"Carousel", "My Fair Lady" and "Once on This Island" make up the best musical revival category, mostly because they're the only eligible nominees.

Other nominees include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Junk, Latin History for Morons, Fairnelli and the King, and The Children for Best Play.

One surprise was the relatively few nominations for Disney's "Frozen" - three, for best original score, best book and best musical.

The 72nd Tony Awards will be held on Sunday, June 10, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
