WHEN IT comes to bragging rights and sports cars, it's no longer enough for drivers to simply name drop the make and model of vehicle they own.

The latest generation of the GT3 RS has become the third Porsche model to lap the world-renowned Nürburgring in under seven minutes. Top speed is 194mph, and it comes with track-developed fairings and bodywork to make it one of the most aggressive-looking road cars.

First of all, this circuit brawl has a clear victor, so there's no need to debate which of the two was quicker.

It takes a high calibre machine to set such a lap time, and that's exactly what the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is.

Lamborghini's Huracán Performante has achieved a time of 6m 52s.

The lap, recorded on April 16 under what the brand is describing as "ideal conditions", saw Porsche Works driver Kévin Estre strap into the driver's seat of the 383kW GT3 RS. But the French racing driver, who competes for the company in the FIA World Endurance Championship, fell four seconds short.

However, this is nothing to be ashamed of.

"No other Porsche model gets as close to racing as the new GT3 RS", stated Frank Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars.

"This lap was a sensational experience for me", he said. If you're wondering, yes, this is faster than the previous GT3 RS, by 24 seconds! "The sound is a dream and the torque is massive". The auto wore Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, which are completely road legal in Europe and the USA, measuring 265/35 on the front and 325/30 on the rear.

Above, you can see the less powerful 911 GT3 RS run around the 'Ring in only 6 minutes, 56 seconds.
