The BlitzBoks will face Fiji in the semifinals of the Sevens at the Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand won both the Men's and Women's Commonwealth Games Sevens gold medals, defeating Australia and Fiji in their respective finals.

South Africa's Blitzboks, the defending Commonwealth Games champions, suffered a shock deafeat at the hands of England on Sunday at the Gold Coast, Australia.

Then it was the turn of New Zealand and Canada, the second and third ranked teams in this year's HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, to duel for top spot in Pool A and a semi-final with the Pool B runner-up on Sunday.

The New Zealand women's side upset Australia 17-12 in their Commonwealth Games final.

However, New Zealand quietened them once more by jumping out to a 14-0 lead against the Rio champions inside the first four minutes and were never really threatened thereafter.

The women's final was also characterised by a strong first half performance from New Zealand and some desperate defence before Brazier stepped up to end home hopes of victory.

In front of a packed stadium, Kelly Brazier broke two exhausted tackles and ran 75-metres to score the golden point victor.

The Canadian women's rugby sevens team will be playing for a bronze medal after a 33-7 loss to Australia.

An overthrown lineout allowed Emille Cherry to score and peg the gap back to 12-7, but captain Charlotte Caslick was forced out of the rest of the match through injury. In a thrilling extra stanza, New Zealand secured the victory when Kelly Brazier scored a 80m try.

The ball landed in the arms of veteran Kurt Baker, who booted the ball out of play to wrap up New Zealand's gold medal.

Australia were awarded a penalty after the siren, but Cassie Staples - apparently thinking her side was up following Green's try - kicked the ball into touch.
