Announced previous year, Ant & Dec's DNA Journey was to allow viewers to watch the Geordie duo as they researched their histories and ancestries.

As both of the presenters have Irish roots, they flew to Ireland past year to trace their ancestry, visiting Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo and Drumkeerin.

Scenes which had been filmed in Ireland are said to have shown Ant drinking in a pub, which may prove controversial after the TV star was charged with drink-driving earlier this month.

An insider told the Daily Star, 'It's really touch and go as to whether this show ever sees the light of day now'. Ant I'm sure is as excited as you both are this could be a focus for him to get well & get back with you his best friend.

Ant McPartlin checked into rehab last week following his arrest on suspicion of drink-driving following a three-car crash.

With much of the show already recorded, it is expected the presenting duo will host the live shows as well - although this hasn't been confirmed.

"Ant has made a decision to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments". He has asked for time off for the foreseeable future'.

Ant will miss the remaining two shows, but will appear only in a pre-recorded video in the final two instalments of a whodunnit sketch that's been running through the series.

Dec, 42, will front the final two episodes of the current series by himself, including the finale set to take place at the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.
