Black Panther has surpassed The Avengers and become the highest-grossing superhero film of all time in the U.S.

Black Panther has become the highest-grossing superhero film in the United States till date.

Black Panther has been breaking records ever since it was announced that Ryan Coogler, who now reigns as the youngest and the first Black Marvel director, would be leading the film. The film has now pulled in $631 million in the United States, making it the highest-grossing superhero movie in history in the USA (not adjusted for inflation).

This weekend will probably see Black Panther finally relinquish the #1 spot at the box office to Pacific Rim Uprising. The film needed only 26 days to make $1 billion. Now Black Panther is behind only four films - Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avatar, Titanic, and Jurassic World.

Ryan Coogler's cultural phenomenon - which won five straight weekends - grossed $16.7 million at this past weekend's domestic box office, according to studio estimates Sunday.

"Black Panther" earned the distinction Saturday after passing up fellow Marvel film "he Avengers", which grossed $623.4 million in 2012.

The consensus of Tomatometer reads, "Black Panther elevates superhero cinema to thrilling new heights while telling one of the MCU's most absorbing stories - and introducing some of its most fully realized characters".

Black Panther also holds the title of the third highest earning film worldwide, topping 2013's "Iron Man 3" which earned $1.214 billion. Especially since the film will still be in theaters once Avengers: Infinity War releases on April 27.
