Aaron Rodgers has a new weapon, but he will also be saying goodbye to one of his favorite targets. They broke Brett Favre and Antonio Freeman's record of 58 during the 2016 season.

"This is a big puzzle, and there's limitations", Gutekunst said of the big-money contracts being handed out and the decision to release Nelson after 10 years in Green Bay. "He has been an exemplary professional and teammate and greatly contributed to our success". Greg Jennings sealed the championship victory two plays later.

Gutekunst has already made one significant deal, sending another top draft pick, Damarious Randall to the Cleveland Browns for quarterback DeShone Kizer and a swap of 4th and 5th round draft choices.

However, Nelson-who missed the 2015 campaign because of a torn ACL-isn't too far removed from dominant totals and could theoretically return to form playing alongside Brady or Derek Carr. Releasing Nelson may not be a permanent move, however. The Packers are still trying to recoup part of Bennett's $6.3 million signing bonus; they lost a grievance but have filed an appeal.

Jimmy Graham scored 18 touchdowns in the three years since the Seahawks traded for him. Under the franchise-tag rules, Graham would then have to be paid 120 percent of his salary last season.

Whether Graham can regain that form in Green Bay is hard to say, but tight end clearly was a need for the Packers. Still, he hauled in a respectable (though, not outstanding) six touchdowns.

"It's been very revealing, when you're able to sit down and watch continuous years of video, more than you've done in the past", noting he wasn't just referring to Cobb and Nelson. He responded one season later with 97 grabs, good for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Kansas State product had 53 catches for 482 yards in 15 games in 2017.

Over nine seasons, Nelson would rack up 550 receptions for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns.
