Man City's Gabriel Jesus admits knee injury still lingers in his mind

Manchester City slipped to their first home defeat since December 2016, but pep Guardiola's men still eased into the quarters 5-2 on aggregate.

Mohamed Elyounoussi says Pep Guardiola congratulated him on his performance after he inspired Basel to a 2-1 win over Manchester City on Wednesday.

City brought in six players following the weekend's 1-0 win over Chelsea, and Guardiola admitted the changes may have affected the team.

Norway worldwide Elyounoussi scored Basel's equaliser against City before going on to set up the victor for Michael Lang in the second half to cap a fine individual performance.

Jesus had a flying start to life at Manchester City interrupted in February last year when he also suffered a metatarsal break and the 20-year-old striker confirmed his compatriot had been in touch.

City were further punished for their lackadaisical approach in the second half when Michael broke into the box to cap off a good move, scoring his second goal against a club from Manchester this season.

While speaking of the situation, Guardiola has said: "It's not about politicians, it's about democracy". In the second half we didn't attack and forgot to even pass the ball... the second half was really really poor. They won the game!

"When you are in the game, without wanting it, you end up thinking about the previous game where you got injured, you have a bit of fear".

Runaway Premier League leaders City were content to play their trademark possession football but without any real threat in attack.

"We have a certain pride and showed that against a team that wins here so often". Pep Guardiola is expected to make changes to his team and rest some key players, but we're still going to see a strong squad and you can not miss this one. We just passed for its own sake.

Jesus, who had a similar problem last season, said: "Neymar sent me a message right after his injury".

"The first half was quite good".

It took just eight minutes for his side to execute the "be clinical" part of this instruction. "They are fighting to stay in the Premier League, and any time you are up against a team like that it is complicated".
