Channel 3 was able to walk through Dalton High School Thursday, just 24 hours after teacher Randal Davidson allegedly fired a shot and prompted the evacuation of the almost 2,000 students that attend the school.

According to the police officers, a threatening note had been found days before in the school halls, but they discard any connection with Wednesday events.

"Our teachers care about our kids".

Observers say the latest incident could affect the debate on gun control.

Rain streaks the side of Dalton High School in Dalton, Ga., where a social studies teacher shot out a window February 28, 2018. after locking himself in the classroom.

When the principal put a key in the door in an attempt to enter, Davidson fired a shot from a handgun through an exterior window of the classroom. But a spokesman says apparently the teacher DIDN'T intend to harm any students. They got the attention of the school's principal, who then attempted to gain access to the barricaded room.

His encounters with Dalton police led some officers to suspect he was facing mental health issues.

Then a gunshot rang out. History assignments were still on the white board and a window was covered up.

Frazier said it didn't appear the shot was aimed at anybody. "Please be patient with us as we implement our emergency plan in conjunction with the Dalton Police Department". The school and the area surrounding it were evacuated.

Police locked down the school.

One student was injured after sustaining an ankle injury while running inside the school during the building evacuation, the Dalton Police Department tweeted.

Principal Bartoo says the school followed threat lockdown procedures to a T.

Mr Davidson faces six charges, including aggravated assault involving a gun and terroristic threats and acts.

Davidson has been a teacher since 2004 and also serves as the play-by-play announcer for the high school's football team.

Randal Davidson is expected to be in court next week. And Bartoo is surprised by what happened.

"I just fear if it was a different teacher, if more teachers have guns, this could have been a lot more tragic than it was".

It comes after President Trump suggested arming teachers in the aftermath of the deadly Florida shooting. Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh commented on the incident today, saying it might be a setup.
