Thomas Mueller and Robert Lewandowski both scored twice as Bayern Munich defeated 10-man Besiktas 5-0 Tuesday to all but secure progress to the Champions League quarterfinals for the seventh straight season.

Bayern Munich enter their Round of 16 match as the heaviest favorites on the slate as they go up against Turkish club, Besiktas.

Bayern have won 20 of their past 21 Champions League games at the Allianz Arena, the only exception coming against Real Madrid in last season's quarter-final (2-1).

"It's very hard for any team to play in the Champions League with 10 men", Heynckes said post-match.

"It's no surprise that Besiktas are here, they won all three of their away matches in the group stage", said Heynckes.

After a promising start, it turned into a nightmare, when Croatian worldwide Domagoj Vida formerly of Bayer 04 Leverkusen - reacting to a horror backpass from Atiba Hutchinson - was shown a straight red after denying Robert Lewandowski a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Back when Senol Gunes was keeping goal at the top level of club football, the competition was still known as the European Champions Cup.

Veli Kavlak (shoulder), Atinc Nukan (knee), Gokhan Tore (knee) and Dusko Tosic (arm) are all sidelined due to their respective fitness problems, and will not be a part of the matchday squad in Munich.

Bayern are a prohibitive [1.16] for the win, which makes sense given their form, but doesn't necessarily take into account Besiktas' abilities. The Turkish club now sit in fourth in the Super Lig but are now on a seven-match unbeaten streak (all competitions). But, being a modern centre-forward, Lewandowski is thinking about those around him, if he is not able to score, then it doesn't have to mean one of his teammates can't.

"We have very good players and I just want to see what they can do, their skills and their characters". For fans living in the United Kingdom, you can also live stream the game on the BT Sport Website.

And it turns out the German prepared for the game in peculiar fashion.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness ruled out any talk of Bayern repeating its 2013 treble from Heynckes' previous stint.

The second leg of the match-up will take place in Istanbul on March 14.

The Turkish champions created chances of their own as winger Ricardo Quaresma beat Bayern centre-back Hummels before firing wide, while Pepe shot over the bar.
