Why Isn't Lorde Performing at the Grammys? Sources Explain …

Lorde won't perform at the Grammys because she wasn't offered a solo spot, according to U.S. media reports.

Lorde is the only woman nominated in the AOTY category.

Lorde is a Grammys veteran, winning two of the awards in 2014 after the release of her debut album. They would only let her perform as part of a planned Tom Petty tribute.

TMZ reports the two-time Grammy award victor, who's the only female nominated for Album of the Year, felt insulted after only being offered the option to perform as part of the late Tom Petty tribute.

Variety reports that the reason behind Lorde's absence is because she declined a performance spot on the ceremony. Why?

The 2 sides couldn't come to an agreement so Lorde pulled the plug on performing altogether and word is she won't be on the Red Carpet either. Last week, her mother tweeted an excerpt from a New York Times article which pointed to the uneven ratio of men to women who have been nominated.

Lorde's mother Sonja Yelich fanned the flames last week when she tweeted a photo of a New York Times article stating that of all the artists nominated for Grammys in the past six years, only nine flawless were women.

Lamar and Gambino will perform solo, while Mars will hit the stage with rapper Cardi B. Jay-Z is the only one not confirmed to be performing.

The 21-year-old did however sing elsewhere this weekend at the pre-Grammys annual event where she sang with the likes of Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus in honour of the 60s band Fleetwood Mac.
