'Watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!'

CNN has not independently confirmed all the assertions in "Fire and Fury" by author Michael Wolff, which portrays Trump allies questioning the President's mental fitness for office.

Miller accused CNN of "anti-Trump hysterical coverage" following the Friday release of the book, which portrays Trump, a former reality TV start who took office almost a year ago, as mentally unstable and unfit for the demands of his job.

At another moment during the interview, Miller discussed Steve Bannon, saying, "It's tragic and unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive".

Tapper denied that anyone at CNN was "trying to stick knives" into Trump.

As Tapper tried to move on to specific questions, like the president's recent comments about Steve Bannon, Miller interrupted to praise Trump for everything that he accomplished in the 2016 election. CNN reported that Trump Jr. was sent the email on September 4, 2016, days before a trove of stolen emails were publicly released. That's when Miller lost his cool and accused Tapper of being "condescending". "There's one viewer that you care about right now and you're being obsequious in order to please him", Tapper said. "I think I've wasted enough of my viewers' time", Tapper said, as Miller attempted to keep talking.

Stephen Miller was the senior policy adviser for the Donald Trump campaign and was then named Senior Adviser to the President.

"I would have been delighted to have written a contrarian account here: Donald Trump, this unexpected President is actually going to succeed", Mr Wolff said.

Tapper wanted to know if Miller had any first-hand knowledge of the now-president meeting with the Russians who visited in Manhattan office building in June 2016.

The newsman also got into a tussle with Miller over who hired him, suggesting it was Bannon who helped bring the young aide on board.

"Because it's my show, and I don't want to do that", Tapper replied. Bannon continues to criticize Kushner and Ivanka Trump in private and calls Trump a "vessel", an ally said, while casting himself as something of a revolutionary in the conservative movement.

When Tapper got to the president's mental fitness, Miller turned it into a full-on slap of CNN, saying there was a "crisis of legitimacy" and a "toxic environment" at the network.

Trump, 71, denounced the book in a press conference on Saturday as "fiction", after affirming on Twitter earlier in the day that he's "a very stable genius" with an impressive resume.

The White House deployed Stephen Miller, a top Trump adviser with strong connections to white nationalism, to defend Donald Trump against allegations that he is unfit for the presidency.
