Chelsea are on the brink of clinching the signing of Ross Barkley after making a new bid for the Everton midfielder.

"If this gamble is correct, it looks like Ross Barkley will finally get his move to Chelsea this month where he'll be hoping a fresh start can help him break back into the England squad", said Coral's John Hill.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that his club are expecting to receive a bid for Ross Barkley this month and concedes that they are destined to lose the England worldwide.

Barkley, 24, has not featured for Everton this season as he recovers from a long-term hamstring injury, but the Merseyside club began to plan for life without him last summer by signing Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen.

With Antonio Conte frustrated with the Chelsea board, after not getting the targets he wanted including watching Tottenham steal Fernando Llorente on deadline day from under their noses, Romelu Lukaku chose to go to Manchester United instead.

Barkley has been at Everton since he was 11-years-old, having been spotted by the club's late and prolific former scout Sid Benson, and made 150 Premier League appearances. The 24-year-old England worldwide, who is out-of-contract at the end of the season, was keen on a move to Spurs - but they were not willing to offer him more than £100,000-a-week.
