Fire officials say the building contained 17 rooms, and all but one side of the building was completely destroyed.

Two families were displaced in two separate house fires in Irving and Arlington between late Sunday and early Monday.

At around 8:30 a.m., Phoenix fire crews responded to reports of a smoke filling up an apartment complex near 33rd and Northern avenues.

Arriving crews found a fire that had started in the garage and made its way into the home's attic, Deboodt said.

"It's not worth your life", said John Dennis with Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services. The fire spread from the first auto to the second, and then into the house. They have opened a shelter at the First Baptist Church on East Main Street in Spartanburg for those residents.

The holidays tend to be a busy time of year for firefighters, Dennis said, because people are dealing with extra lights and candles in their homes. The American Red Cross is assisting the families displaced on Christmas Day.

George said, "We've been buying for months to give the kids a good Christmas and that had to be where the fire ended up catching so we lost everything".
