The Polk County Sheriff's Office will oversee the death investigation.

Officials said they believe fog was a factor in the crash.

There was a fire after the plane crashed that was extinguished by Polk County Fire Rescue personnel.

"This is a tragedy any time, but it is so much worse because it happened on Christmas Eve", Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.

Shannon's daughter Victoria and her husband Peter had just arrived in town on Saturday for the holidays, from Baltimore, where they live.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shannon, Worthington, and Clayton families".

WHNT News 19 will release more information as it becomes available.
