Why link Ram Mandir with elections? PM Modi questions Kapil Sibal

The Sunni Waqf Board on Wednesday distanced itself from its counsel Kapil Sibal's submission to the Supreme Court that the hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case is held after 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Modi was referring to the lawyer Kapil Sibal's plea in the Supreme Court on Tuesday asking that the case not be heard before the 2019 elections because its outcome could have a bearing on that poll.

He also said that the true character of the party was revealed the way one of its leaders pitched to extend the dates of the Ayodhya matter hearing.

"Now that Sunni Waqf Board has said that they don't agree with what Kapil Sibal said in court, it is certain that Sibal spoke in his capacity as a Congress leader, with the blessings of their high command".

"I want to question the Congress Party and explain if it wants the Ram Janmbhoomi matter to be heard at the earliest or not", he asked.

The stakeholders in the case had moved the apex court after the Allahabad HC directed the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and the Lord Ram Lalla to settle for a three-way division of the disputed site. Regarding the entire controversy, Sibal said that, " Will discussion on my going to the court & representing someone solve serious problems in the country? The chairman of the body, Zufar Ahmed Farooqui said Sibal wasn't the board's lawyer and that Mehboob himself was not a member of the board, "but an individual party to the matter". "He is entitled to do that, but is it right for him to say postpone the hearing till 2019?" His statement in the court yesterday was wrong. "We have got nothing to do with his statement", Mehboob said. I request the PM to be a little more careful before making such public comments. "Who he represents in court is Kapil Sibal's personal matter", Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had said. "Whenever the Congress wants to take a different stand on an issue, it keeps Kapil Sibalji in the forefront". Slamming Congress, he further said, "If a road to solution is coming let it come. All should work towards a peaceful solution. but they (Congress party) are trying to create hurdles".

"The PM did not check the fact that actually I never represented the Sunni Waqf Board in the Supreme Court and yet he thanked them".
