"I'm hoping he [Martial] is going to be there a long time", he said.

"The thrill of scoring a goal, you get that same thrill when you save a good chance".

Mourinho oversaw a disappointing sixth-place finish in his first season at Old Trafford but followed Louis van Gaal's FA Cup triumph with Europa League, League Cup and Community Shield glory.

"I think he will end up as a centre-forward", he added.

The two young forwards flanked Romelu Lukaku from the start for the first time on Saturday and United ran out 4-1 winners over Newcastle United at Old Trafford, with Martial scoring for the hosts and Rashford assisting for Paul Pogba's goal.

Speaking to his old youth club, the 20-year-old England global also said that he's willing and able to fill in between the sticks at Old Trafford if he's ever needed there.

Jose Mourinho has revealed that it is hard to play both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in his Manchester United starting lineup as it leaves the side more open. I just think at the moment having Lukaku in the team and obviously Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] coming back as well, I think it's good.

Cole admits Martial and Mourinho's relationship has not been the smoothest. "But teams are coming to have a go and we want to get rid of that".

"You look at Rashford at the moment and he wants to extend himself to be as good as he can be, which is very, very good", he explained.

In fact, they were actually entertaining, with Pogba dominating the midfield and allowing the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to torment the Magpies' backline. "He's got great feet, scores goals and creates goals", Cole told ESPN FC.

Mourinho added though that in the first half Newcastle played well in the "first-half" taking advantage of "our defensive areas" giving the attacking players that were on the pitch "so to play them together gives us things" but at the same time it also "takes some things from us" but in the end everything worked out well.

"You've got Rashford, you've got Martial - they're all quality players and they all know what to do".
