Texas College Apartment Party Causes Floor to Collapse

A number of residents from a Denton student apartment complex have been displaced after the floor of a third-story unit collapsed during a party Saturday night. About 50 people were packed inside for a UNT Homecoming after party jumping up and down and dancing when BOOM! They were at the police department reporting the party.

No serious injuries were reported, but six people suffered minor injuries after the floor gave way, sending partygoers at The Ridge at North Texas apartment complex to the second-floor apartment below, the Denton Record-Chronicle reports. Denton paramedics treated seven people at the scene for minor injuries but didn't take anyone to the hospital by ambulance.

Exactly four minutes after Castro and one of her roomates arrived at the police department, the fire department received an alert that fire alarms were going off at the apartments, according to time logs provided by the police department.

"(We are) in the process of making alternate housing arrangements for those students, a local university offered help as well to provide alternate arrangements", a complex spokesman said.

Another tenant, Carley Carroll, said large parties have been taking place for the past three months.

Investigators said the terrifying collapse was caused by too much jumping.

"TV's, computers, just everything", Carroll told WFAA. "Everything you need for college is gone", Carroll told WFAA.

The party's host, Abiola Busari, said he will be staying with some friends.

Another email to tenants said the matter is being investigated by authorities and a structural engineer will be evaluating the building.
