Iran's Revolutionary Guards chief warns Trump against imposing new sanctions

Iran will consider the United States Army as equivalent to the Islamic State militant organization if Washington designates its Revolutionary Guard's Corps a terrorist group, the commander of the Guards Mohammad Ali Jafari reportedly said Sunday.

"The Islamic Republic (of Iran) sees implementation of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) as the United States unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal and as we have declared in the past too, if the United States new sanctions act comes into action, the country (the US) should transfer its regional bases to 2,000km away, that is as far as the range of Iranian missiles", General Jafari said on Sunday.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran will react appropriately to the stances of President Trump towards Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)- the nuclear accord which Tehran reached with the USA and other countries in 2015 to limit its nuclear program in exchange for lifting of sanctions.

Iranian authorities have sent a note of warning to the USA stating that American regional military bases would be at risk if further sanctions were imposed on Tehran.

"The behavior of the USA toward Iran shows that we can't base our foreign policy on the nuclear agreement alone".

According to the state broadcaster IRIB, lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the outlines of the bill to "counter America's terrorist and adventurist actions" as some chanted "Death to America".

US President Donald Trump will announce new US responses to Iran's missile tests, support for "terrorism" and cyber operations as part of his new Iran strategy, the White House said on Friday.

"The Americans need to know that we will use the Trump administration's stupid conduct as an opportunity to advance our conventional missile program", he added.

"If the US is stupid enough to designate the IRGC a terrorist group, then the IRGC will treat the US Army the way we treat ISIS", he stated.

The Quds Force, the IRGC's foreign espionage and paramilitary wing, and individuals and entities associated with the IRGC are on the U.S. list of foreign terrorist organisations, but the organisation as a whole is not.

Washington says that Iran's missile program is threatening the regional and worldwide peace.
