High Profile Instagram Accounts Hacked; Personal Info Compromised

Selena Gomez - the app's most popular user with more than 125 million followers - was the target of a headline-grabbing hack earlier this week involving her former boyfriend, fellow pop star Justin Bieber. Krieger also said the company is working with law enforcement, and he encouraged users to be careful receiving texts and phone calls from unknown numbers.

Regardless of whether the site selling the information is gone for good, the hackers still have direct contact information for several high-profile accounts and may still be selling in some other way. The spokesperson also verified that the hackers were able to access phone numbers and email addresses. But before they could release the update, hackers have attacked on millions of accounts including the high profile celebrities.

"While Instagram has now fixed the bug that lead to the leak, the cat is out of the bag now, and those affected will have to take extra care to maintain their privacy", RepKnight cybersecurity analyst Patrick Martin wrote in a blog post. However, the list doesn't stop there since it also contains the private information of these following musicians and top athletes: Harry Styles, Floyd Mayweather, Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Neymar, David Beckham and so on.

"Although we can not determine which specific accounts may have been impacted, we believe it was a low percentage of Instagram accounts", a spokesperson told Mashable. The hacker provided a list of 1,000 accounts they said were available for searching on Doxagram to the Daily Beast, and the list included most of the 50 most-followed accounts on the service. Additionally, we're encouraging you to report any unusual activity through our reporting tools.

There is no any information whether the original "Doxagram" hackers ever get caught?

We've asked Instagram for more details and will let you know if it can shed more light on the situation, such as when the breach happened and how many people were targeted.

While Instagram hasn't revealed the specifics of the hack, or outlined any special steps for everyday users, there are still a few simple things to secure your account.

Instagram discovered that a bug in their application's programming interface, was to blame for the latest hacking reports.
