Trump appears to confirm he is under investigation

"Witch Hunt", the President wrote in his tweet.

The recusal question has surfaced before, amid speculation Rosenstein could become part of the Robert Mueller probe given his role in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey. Trump has called the investigation a "witch hunt".

Trump later told NBC's Lester Holt he had planned to fire Comey regardless of what recommendation he received from Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation.

Rosenstein did not mention any specific report, but his comments came after The Washington Post reported President Donald Trump is the subject of an obstruction of justice probe, Politico noted.

Trump also took aim at his favorite foil - the media.

"This is a political fight and he's going to fight it", a White House official said regarding president's Friday's tweets.

Comey testified under oath to the Senate intelligence committee earlier in June that Trump told him in a private conversation: "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

Amid reports Donald Trump is unhappy with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's closeness with fired FBI Director James Comey, the top ethics lawyer from ex-President George W. Bush's administration said Saturday Vice President Mike Pence will "soon become" the next USA president.

In this last tweet, Trump was referring to a memo written by Rosenstein that was intensely critical of Comey and implicitly recommended his removal.

Late Thursday, reports surfaced Vice President Mike Pence hired a lawyer to assist him through probes into whether there were ties between Trump's election campaign and Russian Federation.

Rosenstein earlier this month confirmed he had the ultimate authority to hire or fire Mueller, but said he has been given a wide berth to conduct the probe.

Mr. Trump's latest tweets drew a concerned statement from Sen. Rosenstein also approved the appointment of Mueller as special counsel after the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

A person familiar with Mueller's inquiry, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Thursday Mueller was looking into whether Trump or others attempted to obstruct the Russian Federation investigation.

Trump again took to Twitter following the reports of Pence hiring a lawyer, suggesting Hillary Clinton should be the one under investigation.
