Dahiya's uncle, two elder brothers Surender and Ashok Dahiya both engineers and his parents, who reside in Sonipat, Haryana, were informed about the incident.

A 30-year-old IAS official drowned while rescuing a lady colleague from a swimming pool of the Foreign Service Institute in Ber Sarai here early Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he was attending a get-together with his friends from Indian Foreign and Revenue Services when incidents took a tragic turn.

Biswal said, "Dahiya was pulled out and the station medical officer, Dr Pramyesh Basall was called". Sources said that around midnight, about 10 people who were left at the party chose to enter the pool.

Police are waiting for the report to ascertain whether the young officer had consumed excess alcohol or any drugs.

"It looks like a case of death due to drowning, we can't comment on foul play until a post-mortem is done", said senior police officer Ishwar Singh. The deceased has been identified as Ashish Dahiya.

As the lady officer was safely pulled out, it was noticed that Ashish was missing and soon his body was discovered floating in the pool. Police said he was then taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared him "brought dead". Kuldeep, who said he was an ace swimmer, found it hard to believe that Dahiya could have drowned.

Dahiya had to join J&K IMPA Srinagar from Wednesday for institutional training.

He served in the Customs and Central Excise till past year and then qualified for the IAS.

Kuldeep Singh, deceased's uncle, said, "Ashish informed family members that as they (all officers) will be joining their respective cadre by this week, so they made a decision to hold get-together party". Dahiya's wife Pragya Dixit, who lives in Mukherjee Nagar, has an MBBS degree and is preparing for the UPSC exam on June 15.
