Democrats have taken the assessment to heart; GOP lawmakers disagree.

For weeks now, Republicans senators have been openly critical of having to deal with the House GOP bill. That gives the House a little breathing room should a veto override be necessary.

Senate leaders are positioning themselves for a Congressional Budget Office report that will assess the impact the House-approved health care bill would have on insurance coverage and consumers' costs. The Senate faces no such deadline, but things should be busy there, too, as Monday's final adjournment now begins to loom.

"If you look at what the president is actually for, it strikes me as indistinguishable from what a President Jeb Bush or a President Marco Rubio would have been advocating: deregulation, tax reform, repeal and replace of Obamacare, judges like Neil Gorsuch", McConnell said.

The Legislature may take a long Memorial Day weekend, leaving Friday and not returning until Tuesday.

"I want to thank Dan Huberty, Diego Bernal and the members of the House Committee on Public Education for their incredibly diligent and thoughtful work over the previous year on the issue of school finance".

At that point, the Senate's vote seemed certain to set up conference committee situation with the House of Delegates, which had twice in the special session voted down versions of the Senate plan.

At the same event, RoseAnn DeMoro, the leader of the California Nurses Association, attempted to bully Democrats into supporting the bill with threats to campaign against those who don't vote for it. Two-thirds of the Kansas House voted to approve school-finance legislation Thursday praised for investing more state funding in K-12 public schools and denounced as insufficient to comply with the Kansas Constitution.

The plan represents a step away from rolling back past income tax cuts championed by Republican Gov. Sam Brownback.

A California Senate committee tasked with reviewing bills that spend state money passed a $400 billion universal health care proposal Thursday with no funding plan. If they choose to do some, the 10-member committee will have only a few days to work out a compromise and get their product before both chambers for final votes. Lawmakers have said they intend to complete all of that process and adjourn for the year by mid to late June.

"This year, these wells produced $67 million in gross production tax for the revenue for the state". BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina announced Thursday that it would raise its rates on average by 22.9 percent next year-but if the subsidies were funded, the increase would be 8.8 percent, according to Brian Tajlili, the insurer's head of actuarial and pricing services. The previous version of the bill reduced shortfalls by $150 billion.

Even more consequential than the loss of sporting events would be the notable decrease in convention business in the state's major destinations of Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio-which regularly rank among the country's top 20 convention destinations-as well as in secondary convention markets like Amarillo, Corpus Christi, El Paso, and Galveston.

U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford of our district stated that by passing the bill, the House "advanced the debate to the Senate".

The report found that under the House measure, people in some regions with pre-existing medical conditions or the seriously ill "would ultimately be unable to purchase" robust coverage at premiums comparable to today's prices, "if they could purchase at all".
