Trump to hire private attorney for Russian Federation probe

President Donald Trump has retained Marc Kasowitz as his private attorney for the special counsel's probe of alleged Russian meddling in the USA election and possible ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow, a Fox Business Network reporter said on Twitter on Tuesday.

Kasowitz has represented Trump a number of times in the past and has a long relationship with the president, Business Insider reported. The firm, Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP, publicizes a number of its partner's representations of the president on its website, including in the restructuring of business debt, defamation cases and the effort to keep Trump's divorce records sealed as he campaigned previous year.

Kasowitz is a NY attorney who also represents ousted Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly. Joe Lieberman now works.

In 2006, Kasowitz assisted Trump in a defamation lawsuit against an author who claimed that Trump was not the billionaire he claimed to be.

During last year's presidential campaign, Kasowitz threatened to sue the New York Times if it did not retract a story about women who accused Trump of touching them inappropriately.

"The problem wasn't so much asking them to issue statements, it was asking them to issue false statements about an ongoing investigation", a former senior intelligence official said of the request to Coats. It cited them as saying the team is likely to have lead counselors.

Trump and his advisers allegedly hope to scout out and attract top lawyers across several law firms, who would work together to guide Trump through the congressional and federal investigations.

Now he's leading Trump's legal team on matters related to the Russian Federation scandal.

The White House declined to comment on the details of Trump's contacts with Rogers and Coats.

Trump has called the probe "a witch hunt".

But the possibility of Lewandowski coming into the White House signals that the administration is getting serious about its defense. Trump just made Kasowitz partner David Friedman the US ambassador to Israel.

Trump, as he prepared for the general election against Hillary Clinton, fired the New Hampshire operative in June 2016 as his campaign sputtered through the summer.
