Gautam Gambhir recalled, to replace injured KL Rahul

According to reports, India coach Anil Kumble has asked for Gambhir as a replacement for the in-form Rahul, who suffered a hamstring injury during India's first Test match at Kanpur.

Gambhir's last Test match was against England in August 2014.

After the failed comeback, Gambhir focused on playing domestic cricket and IPL as India moved on with a new Test captain.

Indian pacer Ishant Sharma, who is recovering from chikungunya, has been ruled out of the second Test, off-spinner Jayant Yadav has been called in as his cover. He had scores of 77, 90, 59, 94 and 36 as captain of India Blue, the champions.

Rahul stayed out of the field after he was dismissed for 38 and the 12th man, Shikhar Dhawan, fielded as a substitute. Dhawan, who has been an active member of the Indian squad since his debut against Australia might just get the nod ahead of Gambhir. Jayant Yadav has been named as his replacement.

India, who are now leading the series by 1-0, will play their next Test against New Zealand at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from September 30. Gambhir also gave good performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The off-break bowler was part of the India A squad on Australian tour.
